Armed Heroes 2 is a brand-new, fantasy-themed action RPG that you can play on your mobile devices. Set in a world that’s under threat by invading demons from the spirit world, you’ll need to develop your hero and, alongside other characters in the game, save the world from these seemingly-overwhelming demonic forces!
Your story begins as you wake up at a camp with a pounding headache. Apparently, something terrible happened and you were left unconscious. Thankfully, Sainia and Antonio found you and saved your life, and that you had not lost your memory. After recuperating, you decided to continue on your perilous quest to head to Orem, the City of Freedom, to join the massive effort to put a stop to the invading demonic forces.
To begin your adventure, you’ll need to create a character to play with. There are 4 classes that you can play in this game, namely the warrior, archer, summoner, and mage. As you may have noticed, most classes are primarily ranged, but personally, I’d say playing as a warrior is definitely slightly easier than say playing a well-rounded (in terms of stats) Summoner because you can simply plow into groups of enemies and bash your way through. Of course, which class you choose should ultimately depend on your own preferred playstyle.
These classes have fixed genders, however, and you won’t be able to customize your heroes in any other way except by giving them an epic hero’s name. You can have multiple characters in this game as well, so even if you chose a class that you eventually realized is not for you, you can easily create a new character and switch it up.
The controls in Armed Heroes 2 are pretty straightforward. There is a joystick on the left which you’ll use to move your hero, while the buttons on the right are your range of normal attacks and skills. The controls feel quite responsive and fluid, especially after I’ve greatly reduced the graphical resolution of the game.
However, I’ve noticed that the game doesn’t seem to have auto-targeting or auto-combat, so you may need to put a bit more effort into your fights. You’ll mostly be fighting creatures in the game’s instanced, story-driven campaign with quests that are spread across a vast and gorgeous continent. Of course, there is also PvP battles for you to test your mettle against other players. There’s a tutorial that will help guide you through these important aspects of the gameplay as well, so you need not worry.
Like most mobile RPGs, your hero will get increasingly more powerful as the game progresses. This is shown in terms of your Power rating. The higher your Power is, the stronger your hero will be.
You can bolster your Power rating using a wide variety of ways, be it equipping upgraded and overall, much better gear, adopting a pet, or wearing amazing-looking wings. There are even skills and attributes that you can improve on. For pets and wings though, you will actually get them in their egg forms, called Arcane Organs. The egg will then hatch into, for example, an elemental elf which you’ll need to evolve until it reaches its ultra-form before you can get the elemental elf pet and wings.
The graphics and sound in this game are astounding for a mobile game. Everything seems top-notch and if your devices can support it, you can even get ultra-resolution for this game.
Armed Heroes 2 seems like a really great game and all, but it doesn’t really give me the best of impression when the updates took so long to complete. As opposed to the much smaller download size, the game eventually ended up taking more than a gigabyte worth of space on my tablet after the “update”.
Not to mention, the game doesn’t seem to work well on my lower mid-range tablet since I kept getting a black screen during load up. After a week-long (on and off) of tug-of-war with the game, it ended up giving me a “Failed to get calibration file” and I threw in the final straw.
So, although Armed Heroes 2 is really fun to play when I was able to play it, I still won’t be able to recommend the game. Due to the many technical issues, the game feels a lot more like a work-in-progress rather than a game that’s ready for launch. Personally, I think it might be best if the developers delay the launch date by a month or so just to ensure that their game runs smoothly on most devices (the keyword here is “most”) before pushing for a release.
