Maze Machina definitely has a bit of a learning curve as it’s gameplay has a fair amount of strategic depth to it. Thankfully, however, this is taken care of by a thorough and detailed tutorial sequence that takes place at the very beginning of the game. This tutorial will walk you through the various basics and fundamentals of the game and, by the time its over, you’ll have a pretty solid understanding of how everything works implying, of course, that you listen throughout the entirety of the tutorial.
The gameplay of Maze Machina features a pretty creative turn-based design in which your goal in each individual puzzle is going to be to defeat your foes and eventually find a key that’ll help you progress. The twist here is that you’ll have a limited number of moves to do so in each puzzle and, each time you make a move, the enemies on the board will make an identical move and you’ll need to use this information to figure out how you can lure them into a weak position where they can be eliminated. In this manner, you need to create strategies to eventually clear all foes from the playing board so that you can finally take the key and move onto the next puzzle. It’s also worth mentioning that you’ll have a limited number of moves to pull this off and all this comes together to make for an intense, challenging and engaging puzzle/strategy experience quite unlike any other out there.
Maze Machina also does quite a lot to ensure that the game remains interesting for players as they progress further into it. There’s an in-game workshop where you can craft different weapons and bonuses that can be used during the puzzles and each one of these has various effects. It’s worth highlighting, though, that your foes can use the same weapons you can on the playing field so you’ll need to be careful of this at all times.
The graphics of Maze Machina feature a highly unique and creative steampunk and medieval hybrid art style that does not cease to impress at all. All the in-game entities are highly detailed and crafted with perfection, the overall in-game environment is thoroughly immersive, the animations and effects are smooth and, all things considered, is spot-on in terms of visuals.
Maze Machina is free to download and play but comes with its fair share of micro-transactions that you can go through to purchase bonus content such as weapons from the workshop in exchange for real money.
