Project Zomboid is a post-apocalyptic survival game that that proven that there is more to the genre than bashing or blowing zombies to bits. You’d also have to make sure that you don’t go literally crazy in the game trying to get on by. We’re reminded of many sandbox elements including an ever-expanding overworld, several skills to level up, and at stats-based progression, players can see hours of play. Since this is a PC title, are there any mobile equivalents of this that can be just as good, if not better?

Mini DAYZ: Zombie Survival

Mini DAYZ: Zombie Survival puts the emphasis on survival by making you worry about things other than zombies. It may look like another easy pixel game, until you start finding out that thriving on a world with limited resources is more challenging than expected. There are food raids to conduct, limited storage to make you think of what to keep or otherwise, and hordes of undead and other creatures trying to kill you. The tension between life and death in constant in this title.

The Walking Dead Game Series

When it comes to walkers and tough decision-making, the 3 seasons of this story-telling game series is as faithful as it gets from the comics and TV show source materials. The hapless infected take a back seat as the main scare in these titles. The Walking Dead Series puts emphasis on how humans interact with others in a world where any semblance of order is all but lost. As with other Telltale Games Series Titles, the first episode is free, but you’d need to buy the next ones to continue playing.

Last Shelter: Survival

Last Shelter: Survival is in essence, a zombie-themed RTS. You’re tasked to scrounge for resources in your attempts to make your settlement a little more zombie horde-resistant. Getting to higher levels is where the PvP and RTS elements start to affect your gameplay. You’ll find that you not only need to protect your colony from the undead swarms, but also from players who will try to squeeze your settlement for every material they could get.

Dawn of Zombies: Survival

You’d be situated in The Last Territories, where everything has become a desperate game of survival. Expect a lot of undead and other fierce organisms trying to make lunch of you. Dawn of Zombies: Survival moves forward with your interaction with other survivors, which means you’d be going places to get the big picture. Crafting is going to be one of the main mechanics of this game, so make sure you have enough carrying capacity to loot all the materials you need.

LifeAfter

What’s interesting in LifeAfter is that you get to play as a part-human, part-zombie Revenant to explore areas where most other survival games don’t dare to tread. Of course, you’d still be starting out as a regular apocalypse survivor who needs to find shelter, fortify it against hostile elements, gather more survivors to keep it running, and craft all manner of items and machines to help make your situation more livable.

Unkilled

If you’re looking for a good diversion or an uncommon interpretation of zombie survival, Unkilled can satisfy your curiosity. This is one of the better zombie shooters you can get for your mobile device. You get great visuals (even at lower framerates), responsive controls, and multiplayer game modes which are a good break from playing the main story. The auto-fire function makes sure that you’ll feed the undead some lead right away.

Infectonator 3: Apocalypse

Let’s be honest, the slew of zombie game offerings in the mobile market either revolve around survivors either trying to live without getting their brains devoured, or humans attempting to eradicate the infected horde with guns blazing. Infectonator 3: Apocalypse follows the action and strategy-based formula but flips it upside-down. Just like in the label, you will play as the zombie with an aim to infect the world and make it an undead paradise.

Grim Soul: Dark Fantasy Survival

Take a zombie survival game, throw away the guns and other modern stuff, put a dark fantasy setting instead, and arm your zombies to the teeth. What you get is Grim Soul: Dark Fantasy Survival - an adventure that keeps you busy juggling between keeping your domain safe and clearing dungeons of undead elements. You’d be doing a lot of running around between places to get materials, and grinding for anything to make your character stronger than before.

Into the Dead 2

This is an iteration of a literal run n’ gun game – with hordes of flesh-eaters as your targets. Apart from the main story, you also get two game modes where it’s shoot-all-you-can until your enemies rip you apart. Weapons are the main stars of Into the Dead 2 though, since you’d be spending resources to upgrade them and give them full punching power. If deleting zombies through relentless assault is your thing, then this is something you’ll definitely enjoy.

Last Day on Earth: Survival

Current offerings of zombie survival titles are either base builders or shooters, which offer either quick entertainment or time-invested satisfaction. Last Day on Earth: Survival is one of those Action-RPG offerings, where content revolves around building a base and crafting the best equipment to survive your everyday tangle with hostile entities. A great feature you can exploit is the ability to sneak and kill a target from behind. NPCs can also turn hostile and may raid your settlement, so be always wary.
